| The origins of BHM (Black History Month) go back to 1926 when Carter G Woodson, editor for thirty years of the Journal of Negro History, established African Caribbean celebrations in America. It is still celebrated there in February each year. |
| |
| In Britain BHM is held every October in Britain and the aims are to: |
| |
 |
Promote knowledge of Black History and experience |
 |
Disseminate information on positive Black contributions to British Society |
 |
Heighten the confidence and awareness of Black people in their cultural heritage, with the focus being on African and Caribbean heritage |
|
| |
| In the celebration of Black History Month this year in the London borough of Greenwich, Life Changers will be working with young people within the borough to put up an event while releasing their potentials to skills development and identification. |
| |
| This years events theme is EMPOWERING OUR YOUTH. By empowering young people within the borough to engage in constructive activities and giving them an opportunity to change the stereotyping amongst the adult community, in other words, eliminate the negative publicity often presented by the media especially about black young people. |
| |
| The event will be fun packed with various activities educative, interactive and informative all presented by young people. We expect a broad range of audience from various and diverse communities. |
