Life Changers Foundation: Distributes food to the most vulnerable in Ota Ogun State, Nigeria (COVID-19 Response)

Life Changers Foundation: Distributes food to the most vulnerable in Ota Ogun State, Nigeria (COVID-19 Response)

As the COVID-19 pandemic develops, and social distancing rules become more extreme we have seen an increase in people from around the world in need of basic essentials such as food, shelter, and other basic necessities, some have lost their source of income as a result of this pandemic.

Most African countries do not have the facilities in place to support people who do not have a steady income and Nigeria is no exception – where a large amount of people do menial work, such as hawking, cleaning, selling in public places and markets, hairdressing, tailoring etc.  Having jobs likes these means that people don’t have a regular income and therefore wouldn’t be earning any money during the lockdown period – making it difficult for them to access food, toiletries and other household essentials.

Lives of millions across Nigeria are threatened now that the President of Nigeria General Muhammadu Buhari announced yesterday (April 13, 2020) that the lockdown that initially started on the 30th of March 2020 in Lagos state, neighboring Ogun state, and Abuja, the nation’s capital, would continue for another 14 days – this means the whole country will be on lockdown throughout the Month of April.

The effect the current crisis and further extension of the lockdown would have on families that are already vulnerable might be catastrophic in terms of food shortages and lack of money. In response to this Life Changers Foundation in an effort to support those who are most vulnerable began distributing foodstuff to the most vulnerable across Ota Ogun State Nigeria on the 14th of April 2020. Food packs given out to each household includes (rice, garri, beans and spaghetti). Life Changers Foundation will also be setting up a food bank to further support families in desperate need within the community. This can only be achieved with the help of members of the public.

“The outbreak of hoodlums in Ota Ogun State is as a result of the COVID-19 lockdown in addition to the lack of food and income; we need to act fast to prevent the pandemic from destroying the lives and livelihoods of our people especially the poor and most vulnerable people.”  – Sheri Adegbesan (Founder Life Changers Foundation)

Life Changers Foundation is appealing for donations, to help us ensure that the most disadvantaged in our society have enough to eat. Donations can be in form of cash or food produces, every little helps.

“I know these are deeply worrying and uncertain times, but I also know that we are more than capable to pull together to get through this crisis. Together we can ensure that no one dies of hunger as a result of this lockdown” – Sheri Adegbesan

It is essential that we continue to help the less fortunate in this unpleasant time, by doing all we can to help keep people from starvation. All help and donations will not go unnoticed and will be greatly appreciated.  To support Life Changers Foundation please call: +447402673850 or email: Sheri@life-changers.org.uk
